Penguin Marvel Classics Collection to release June 14th!

MARVEL fans have had it pretty good in pop culture throughout the last two decades.

Now there’s a confirmed bookish reason to celebrate: June will see a Penguin Marvel Classics Collection - a superpowered team-up of Penguin Classics and the core, founding stories of key Marvel characters.

The releases will feature the original stories of Marvel superheroes, and the first three titles will be Black Panther, Captain America, and The Amazing Spider Man - available for purchase on June 14th.

As reported by The Bookseller, there will be two versions of each title: a paperback version featuring a black spine but also gorgeous-sounding collectible hardcover editions.

These delectable collectible editions will feature gold-foil stamping, gold top-edging as well as featured artwork in the book endpapers.

Each release will have scholarly introductions from series editor Ben Saunders and Qiana J Whitted, as well as a foreword by a contemporary young adult author, which sounds the perfect mix of cultural significance and celebration.

Needless to say, we are very excited by the summer release of the Penguin Marvel Classics Collections, and we’re sure they’ll bring heroic levels of enjoyment and appreciation for those that get them.

The parties involved clearly know the significance of the collaboration too. Series editor Saunders has stated: “It is not hyperbole but simply a fact: these classic Marvel Comics are foundational documents of our culture.”

Meanwhile, Jessica Harrison, publishing director of Penguin Classics said:

“We are thrilled to present Marvel’s classics as Penguin Classics and to place the iconic work of Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, and many other historic Marvel creators on shelves alongside the world’s greatest literature.”

Finally, Sven Larsen, VP of licensed publishing at Marvel is also excited:

I can’t wait for new readers to discover these stories for the first time and I’m excited for existing fans to be able to read the new introductions, essays, and other material that will provide an even deeper appreciation of these seminal works of graphic fiction.”

We can only agree. Each of the releases will be cherished, and we’re sure there will be more than the initial three, too.

Oh and also…Wakanda Forever!
